What is the ego’s role in enlightenment?

The spiritual seeker is ego incarnate willing it’s own demise. The free will of the ego is the mechanism that turns on itself in the pursuit of its own destruction once it realizes that it is “me” that obstructs the light; therefore taking the necessary steps to act as a means to its own end.

It is not about being free of ego but rather becoming it and then walking it into the fire of awareness that then purifies it and makes it translucent, allowing light but not the details of form to pass through it.
